Airbus suspends operations in Russia

After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many countries, especially the European Union and the USA, decided to impose sanctions on Russia. EU-based aviation giant Airbus also decided to support the sanctions.

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus announced that it has suspended support to Russian airlines and supply of spare parts to Russia.

The giant aircraft manufacturer also added that in line with the sanctions, it has suspended all operations of its engineering center in Russia.

BOEING WILL ALSO SUPPORT SANCTIONS!

On the other hand, US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing took a similar decision after US President Joe Biden announced that the airspace would be closed to Russian planes and that the sanctions would continue to increase.

It was stated that Boeing will suspend technical support to Russian airline companies and stop supplying spare parts

Cooperation between CFM and Airbus

CFM International (CFM), a 50/50 joint-stock company established by GE and Safran Aircraft Engines, and Airbus have signed an agreement to collaborate on the hydrogen demonstration program to be held in the mid-2020s.

The program aims to test a hydrogen-powered direct-combustion engine on the ground and in flight, in preparation for the commissioning of a zero-emissions aircraft by 2035.

CFM will replace the combustion chamber, fuel system and control system of a GE PassportTM turbo fan to run on hydrogen. This engine assembled in the USA; It was chosen because of its physical size, advanced turbo machinery and fuel flow capacity. The engine will be mounted on the aft fuselage of the flight test platform so that engine emissions, including traces of condensation, can be monitored separately from the emissions of the engines powering the aircraft. CFM will conduct an extensive ground test program prior to flight testing with the A380 flight test platform.

The program will use an A380 flight test platform equipped with liquid hydrogen tanks, prepared at Airbus facilities in France and Germany. Airbus will determine the requirements for the hydrogen propulsion system, oversee the flight test and will provide an A380 platform to test the hydrogen combustion engine while cruise.

Airbus delivered 142 aircraft to China in 2021

Airbus announced that they delivered a total of 142 commercial commercial aircraft to the Chinese market in 2021.

Meanwhile, more than 330 Airbus helicopters are in service in the Chinese market.

JetBlue and Airbus sign contract for 30 aircraft

JetBlue Airways signed a firm order for 30 more A220-300 aircraft with Airbus, bringing the total number of orders for the A220-300 aircraft to 100. With this latest agreement, the total number of orders for the A220 has increased to 740.

Jetblue began A220-300 operations in April 2021 and currently operates eight A220s in 140-seat configuration with USB-C, USB-A and AC power in each seat. The A220 also offers the largest cabin in its class, the highest ceiling, the largest windows and the largest overhead compartments.

The Airbus A220 is the only aircraft specially manufactured for the 100-150 seat market and flies with state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials, and Pratt & Whitney's latest generation PW1500G geared turbofan engines. Utilizing the latest technologies, the A220 is shown as the quietest, cleanest and most environmentally friendly aircraft in its category. Compared to previous generation aircraft, the aircraft is 50 percent quieter and has up to 25 percent lower fuel consumption per seat, as well as approximately 50 percent lower NOx emissions than industry standards.

With approximately 15 airlines operating nearly 200 A220 aircraft on four continents, the A220 is cited as the most suitable aircraft for both regional and long-haul routes.

Airbus has delivered 2 helicopters to NASA

 

Airbus, Airbus Helicopters, Inc. in Columbus, Mississippi. continues to expand its product portfolio supporting the future of space exploration with the delivery of two new H135 helicopters from the manufacturing and completion facility to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

With the third H135 scheduled for delivery early next year, the helicopters will be deployed at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida and will be used for rocket launches for a variety of missions, including air safety, emergency medical services, research, and skilled passenger transport.

In October, one of the H135s will take the Crew Dragon members on a 6-month expedition to SpaceX's ISI to the historic launch pad at 39A. Helicopters will also support the preparation and execution of the Artemis project, a manned lunar travel program by 2024.
